How your takeoff informs your bespoke design

Your architectural takeoff extracts the fundamental spatial framework: linear wall runs, island proportions, cabinet unit allocations and primary worktop surfaces. Once you reveal your indicative planning allowance, this provides an objective starting benchmark based on audited UK kitchen cost data.

To advance from an indicative model to bespoke architectural manufacturing drawings, share your room dimensions, architectural elevations or site photographs with NURA studio in Fulham. Our designers will calibrate timber grain selections, custom internals, fluted profiles and stone slabs specifically to your space.

Planning with NURA

Your kitchen budget questions, answered

How much does a bespoke kitchen from NURA cost?

NURA projects are quoted individually against the agreed design and specification. Use this planner to explore a broad UK market allowance, then discuss your room, preferred materials and cabinetry requirements with the studio. The £7,400 minimum is a setting of this planning model, not an advertised NURA starting price.

What is included in this kitchen cost estimate?

The breakdown shows cabinetry, worktops and your selected appliance, fitting and trade allowances. Choosing to retain appliances or use your own installer excludes those purchases or fitting allowances. Structural work, flooring, decoration, delivery, unconfirmed disposal, specialist design fees and unusual site work are outside the result. Ask for each responsibility and inclusion to be written into your project quotation.

How accurate is the NURA kitchen cost calculator?

It is an early planning tool using published component benchmarks and disclosed assumptions, not a measured design or a NURA quotation. Unit-count scaling does not capture every drawer, tall cabinet, corner, finish or access requirement. Share a plan, photographs and a list of priorities with NURA so the conversation can move from a generic allowance to the actual brief.

Does the estimated kitchen cost include VAT?

All displayed ranges include modelled standard VAT at 20%. The source benchmarks do not all confirm their tax basis, so the model covers both net and VAT-inclusive interpretations rather than claiming those rates have been reconciled. Confirm the applicable VAT rate and the net, tax and gross amounts in your written quotation. Special tax treatments are not modelled.

How do I choose the right kitchen size and number of units?

Choose the closest 8, 12 or 16-unit scenario. The room-area labels are approximate guides, not a measured cabinet schedule. Count planned island units within the total and note base, wall and tall cabinets separately. If you are unsure, bring a rough plan to your NURA discussion; windows, doorways, appliance positions and circulation can change how much cabinetry makes sense.

How much should I allow for kitchen installation?

Select Include fitting to add the published UK fitting allowance shown in the breakdown. Plumbing and electrical allowances are separate choices. These figures are not a NURA installation price and do not establish who will undertake the work. Confirm removal, assembly, worktop fabrication, appliance connections, making good and coordination responsibilities for your actual project.

What makes a bespoke kitchen more expensive?

More cabinetry, tall storage, drawer mechanisms, specialist finishes and detailed material transitions can all change the scope. Worktop fabrication, appliance choices and site access also need individual consideration. In this prototype, layout records your preference without adding a price multiplier, and several components use fixed package allowances. Ask NURA to compare specific design alternatives rather than assume every upgrade has a standard percentage.

How can I reduce my kitchen cost without compromising the design?

Start with what matters most: daily storage, an efficient layout and the materials you will see and touch. Consider retaining suitable appliances, keeping service positions where practical, simplifying internal accessories or reserving a specialist finish for one area. Ask NURA to explore alternatives against the same brief and compare written inclusions. No particular saving is guaranteed.

Prepare a rough plan, room photographs, appliance details and a list of priorities, then discuss your kitchen brief with NURA. Read the bespoke kitchen planning guide for the wider design decisions.

How kitchen cost calculators work around the world

A bespoke kitchen cost calculator needs more than floor area to support a useful planning estimate. These examples show how different tools translate a room, a cabinet run or a specification into a planning figure. This is a comparison of selected published methods, not a worldwide ranking or a source of NURA prices.

United States

NW Homeworks asks for location, size and layout, then separates cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances and services. Keeping an existing element is a separate choice from replacing it. Its internal pricing coefficients were not verified.

Germany

1kuechen uses kitchen shape and cabinet-run lengths alongside appliance and worktop tiers. Installation, connections and removal are separate selections. The publisher explicitly says its postcode input does not change the indicative price.

France

Schmidt starts from priced reference layouts and offers three-dimensional personalisation of layout, fronts and worktops. For a kitchen cost estimate, a reference layout price is not a universal rate per square metre. The embedded configurator and detailed price documents were not tested in this review.

India

Two Indian tools show how a kitchen budget planner can work at different levels of detail. InteriorCalculator describes cabinetry and countertops priced per running foot, with accessory bundles and separate equipment additions. Layout, finish and city are inputs.

GenuineRate takes separate base and wall cabinet lengths, drawer count, board, finish and hinge choices, then presents material quantities, hardware and labour ranges. The distinction is useful: one model builds a package allowance from cabinet length, while the other exposes estimated material and labour quantities. Publisher rates, city adjustments and cut-list engineering were not independently validated.

Australia

Sydney Kitchen Reno publishes a model based on cabinetry length, scope and benchtop adjustments, with additions for services, pantry and site complexity. It also applies a Sydney adjustment. Those rates and adjustments are the publisher's assumptions, not verified London benchmarks.

United Kingdom: unit packages and component allowances

Wren uses a collection choice and packages of 8, 12, 16 or 20 units, associated with approximate room sizes. Worktop, sink and tap, appliance package and brand, and installation choices complete the brief. Dry-fit installation excludes plumbing and electrics. Package prices belong to Wren and are not universal bespoke-cabinet rates.

Magnet also starts with unit-count packages, then offers kitchen ranges, flat-pack or pre-built cabinets, worktops, flooring, sinks, taps, storage, appliances and installation. It distinguishes dry-fit from wet-fit work. The full internal pricing formula was not verified in this review.

Smile Kitchens publishes component allowances for cabinets, worktops, appliances, fitting, plumbing and electrics. These provide the principal component benchmarks for the planner above. In this bespoke kitchen cost calculator, the assumed 12-unit reference, size scaling, minimum allowance and treatment of uncertain source VAT are disclosed model settings, not Smile's calculator formula.

Checkatrade's kitchen calculator combines selected project charges with area-based flooring. In our browser check, changing floor area from 14 to 20 square metres changed laminate flooring from £840 to £1,200 while selected cabinet-supply and fitting charges stayed fixed. That page was dated December 2024 and excludes VAT and several renovation tasks.

Its separate bespoke kitchen cost guide supplies the broad cabinetry benchmark used here. A national UK allowance is not a London-specific quote. Supplier promotions, scope, VAT and site conditions must be checked before comparing figures.

What to measure before asking for an estimate

To move from a kitchen cost estimate to a design brief, record the room dimensions and layout, then distinguish base cabinets, wall cabinets and tall units. Note the proposed island, worktop dimensions, finish, drawer and storage needs, appliances to retain or replace, and installation scope. Two rooms with the same floor area can require very different amounts of cabinetry.

Research limits: selected publisher pages were reviewed across five countries outside the UK. This was not an exhaustive market survey or a completed interactive test of every tool. Foreign prices, tax rules and labour assumptions cannot be converted into a reliable NURA quotation by exchanging currencies. The planner above uses UK component benchmarks and disclosed modelling assumptions, not foreign rates or a calibrated NURA quotation.
